Where It Began

My grandmother took prayer seriously.

Even in her old age, she would dress beautifully for each prayer - more beautifully than I dressed for anything. She wore these prayer dresses in Sri Lanka that were made with real care: premium fabrics, thoughtful construction, pieces she’d had for years and treasured.

Here in Toronto I started looking for something similar - that same quality, that same intention - I couldn’t find it. Everything felt wrong: too cheap, too flimsy, or I’d have to order from overseas and hope it worked.

I kept thinking about my grandmother. About the reverence she brought to prayer, five plus times a day, every single day. How she honored those moments with beauty. And I realized: prayer cannot be an afterthought. These five daily pauses - our most intimate conversations with Allah - they deserve intention.

So I set out to create what I wished existed here.

I traveled to source fabrics, feeling each one against my skin, testing for opacity and drape, hand-picking only what met my standards. I curated colors that work together, designing collections where each piece complements the others. I worked with skilled artisans in Sri Lanka - the same region where my grandmother wore her dresses - to bring this vision to life.

Each Prayer Shop dress uses 4 meters of premium four-way stretch fabric. That’s more than necessary, but prayer deserves unrestricted movement. Every piece is constructed with care, made in very limited batches, ensuring the woman who makes it hers receives something truly exceptional.

This is my invitation: to approach prayer differently. To step into those moments and feel transformed - not rushed, not distracted, but present. The way my grandmother showed me it could be.

The Prayer Shop exists for women who understand that what you wear five times a day, every day of your life, matters. That prayer isn’t routine - it’s sacred. And that deserves to be honored with beauty.

Heirloom quality for worship. Intentionally made. Thoughtfully curated. For the woman who sees prayer the way it truly is: the most important moment of her day.
